Am Mittwochmorgen, dem 11. Juni 2025, wurde in der Justizvollzugsanstalt (JVA) Pöschwies ein 27-jähriger Häftling marokkanischer Staatsangehörigkeit tot in seiner Zelle entdeckt. Trotz sofortiger medizinischer Versorgung konnte ein umgehend alarmierter Arzt nur noch seinen Tod feststellen.

Die Staatsanwaltschaft Winterthur/Unterland hat, wie bei allen Todesfällen in Justizvollzugsanstalten üblich, umgehend eine Untersuchung eingeleitet. Nach den bisherigen Ermittlungen der Kantonspolizei und der Staatsanwaltschaft gibt es keine Anzeichen für eine Beteiligung Dritter am Tod des Mannes.

Aus Rücksicht auf die laufenden Ermittlungen können derzeit weder die Staatsanwaltschaft noch die Justizvollzugsanstalt und die Abteilung Wiedereingliederung weitere Auskünfte erteilen.
